FC Groningen fans will never forget the European Cup matches in 1983 against Atletico Madrid (3-0 win) and Inter Milan (2-0 win). In the early eighties FC Groningen started their attack to become the 4th team in The Netherlands. Somewhere, somehow their position crumbled off and led to their relegation in 1998. In 2000 FC Groningen is back where the team belongs: the KPN Eredivisie.

During the 2005-2006 season, FC Groningen moved to the brand new Euroborg Stadion.
