Antonio Vespucio Liberti (Monumental) in Buenos Aires

Opened: May 5, 1938
Seats: 76.687
Team:  River Plate

I visited this stadium when I was on holidays in Argentina. I was fortunate that on the day of my arrival in Buenos Aires, River Plate played against Boca Juniors. The match was not very good (0-0), but the atmosphere was incredible.
For me the River Plate's Monumental stadium will forever be the stadium where The Netherlands should have become world champions. The Netherlands played the final of the world championship here against Argentina. Though Argentina was the better side, Rob Rensenbrink could have scored the winning goal only a few minutes before the end of the match. Unfortunately Rensenbrink hit the post and The Netherlands lost in extra time.
